This year’s Divots for Devereux is going green—and we’re not talking golf greens. Devereux is teaming up with Republic Waste Services to make this year’s Divots for Devereux the best—and greenest—tournament yet!

WHAT'S GOING GREEN?

The location. Wildcat Golf Club is built on top of the former Holmes Road landfill about seven miles south of central Houston. Republic Waste Services, the landfill owner, leased the land to the developers of Wildcat. The result: a 440-acre, two 18-hole championship golf course that serves golfer and wildlife.

The underwriter. Republic Waste Services is graciously underwriting the cost of golf, carts and range balls for the entire tournament (a $10,000 value). Republic provides collection, recycling and disposal services to 13 million residential, commercial and industrial customers in 40 U.S. states and Puerto Rico. The company’s environmental initiatives include significant recycling (3.5 million tons in 2008 alone), comprehensive waste stream management, reductions in fleet emissions, use of methane gas as a renewable energy source, and transforming suitable landfill properties into parks, golf courses and wildlife habitat.
