HOUSTON – October 2, 2009 – Golf was in full force at the 8th Annual Divots for Devereux Golf Classic held on Monday, September 21, 2009, at the Wildcat Golf Club in Houston, Texas.

Sponsored by Lexus of Clear Lake, this year’s tournament raised more than $72,000 for the client services and programs of Devereux Texas Treatment Network—making the 2009 fundraiser one of the most successful to date.

This year, Republic Waste Services graciously underwrote the cost of golf, carts and range balls at Wildcat for the entire tournament (worth $10,000), promoting the tournament’s underlying theme—“going green.” Another green-friendly sponsor, Green Bank, also joined to bring their unique “green” take on banking to the tournament.

“We had a wonderful group of people and businesses who came out this year to support Devereux,” said Pam Helm, executive director of Devereux Texas Treatment Network. "The money raised provides the much-needed funds to enhance the programs and services for the children and adolescents we serve."

For the third year in a row, a raffle was held for the Lexus Champions for Charity Pebble Beach Golf Package donated by Lexus of Clear Lake. The golf package includes three days of play at Pebble Beach Golf Links, The Links at Spanish Bay and Spyglass Hill Golf Course, with a chance of winning a $100,000 charity purse for Devereux. This year, Ron Masters, president and CEO of MaximGroup, won the raffle, which he then donated to be auctioned off at the event. The golf package was auctioned off for $8,500—all benefiting Devereux.

In addition to 18 holes of golf, golfers had the opportunity to win a year lease on a new Lexus donated by Lexus of Clear Lake in a designated hole-in-one contest. The golf tournament concluded with dinner and a live auction to raise additional funds for Devereux.

Tournament teams and players were awarded for their great round of golf. Championship Division First Place Winners included Ray Naab, Jason Lodes, Mike Scarbrough and John Ohlenburg, playing for Zytax. Fun Division First Place Winners included Brian Collins, Robert Holtzelaw, Sean Kelly and Adriel Vasquez, playing for the Rajin Cajun. The Longest Drive Award went to Jason Lodes; and the Closest to the Pin Award went to Chris Colin.

“We really wanted to make this year’s tournament a big success,” said John Lowery, one of the chairs of the 8th Annual Divots for Devereux Golf Classic. “Republic’s donation to Divots this year made the tournament very special and a great time for everyone.”
