League City, Texas – October 11, 2007 – Golf was in full force at the 6th Annual Divots for Devereux Golf Classic held on September 24, 2007, at the beautiful Riverbend Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas. Sponsored by Lexus of Clear Lake, this year’s tournament raised over $50,000 for the client services and programs of Devereux Texas Treatment Network.
“This was one of the best tournaments we have ever had,” said Pam Helm, executive director of Devereux Texas Treatment Network. “The community really came together to support Devereux with an outstanding event. The money raised from the tournament will provide the much-needed funds to enhance the programs and services for those we serve.”
A twist on last year’s fundraising efforts, the tournament this year included a raffle for the Lexus Champions for Charity Pebble Beach Golf Package donated by Lexus of Clear Lake. The golf package includes three days of play at Pebble Beach Golf Links, The Links at Spanish Bay and Spyglass Hill Golf Course, with a chance of winning a $100,000 charity purse for Devereux. The raffle alone raised over $25,000 for the tournament, with the prize going to Jim Saxe, owner of Putt-Putt FunHouse in Clear Lake, Texas.
In addition to 18 holes of golf, golfers had the opportunity to win a $100,000 cash prize, a new Lexus donated by Lexus of Clear Lake, and his and her Rolex watches donated by Lewis Jewelers, in three designated hole-in-one contests. The golf tournament concluded with dinner and a live auction to raise additional funds for Devereux.
Many golfers were awarded for their great round of golf. Championship Division First Place honors went to the Design At Work team: Thomas Emde, Brady Graham, Bob Anasta and Robby Hamilton. Fun Division First Place honors went to the team from Tatum, LLC: Mark Harris, Brian Sharpe, Roy Rieber and Gary Brooks. Trophies were also awarded to Vann Vandervoort for men's division longest drive and Bettie Mathis for women's division longest drive. Chris Berno won $1,000 in the “Hit the Green Raffle.”
“The tournament was a great success,” said Bob Reeves, chair of the 6th Annual Divots for Devereux Golf Classic. “We are so proud of our volunteers and sponsors who gave their time freely without hesitation to support the Devereux mission.”
